Bisley C of E Primary School

Everyone Successful Everyday

At Bisley, we have thoughtfully designed the curriculum so that children are taken all around the world over the 7 years they are with us. The units we have chosen deliberately re-visit topics within the National Curriculum in order to embed learning, but also build on one another to ensure progression. Our curriculum intends to foster a curious mind, an enthusiastic explorer and a responsible citizen. We aim to achieve this by studying interesting and diverse places, comparing other countries to our own, prioritising fieldwork skills and trips, and reflecting on our own and others’ impact on the environment.

At Bisley, we teach 3 units of geography in each year group, 1 of which is always fieldwork. We have been thorough in our curriculum design to ensure every year group’s learning builds upon previous learning. The STEM faculty have tried, where possible, to link geography units to both history units and science units as we believe that children gain a deeper understanding when their learning is linked.

At Bisley, we hope children will leave our school with a secure understanding of locational knowledge (where places are in the world), human and physical geography (including mountains, rivers and volcanoes) and fieldwork skills. Our intention is that by the end of their primary school career, Bisley children will have a passion for the world around them and their place within it. In addition to their knowledge, we hope that children will have developed skills to make them successful and resilient Geographers, keen to travel and confident in their ability to problem solve
